The Bard was well-celebrated at Kilmallie Community Burns Supper!

The Kilmallie Community Centre resounded to songs, music and tales at a Burns’ Supper organised by the Friends of Kilmallie Church, Corpach, on Saturday.

At its heart, Rhoda Beedie as ‘Poosie Nancy’, led the kitchen staff and waiters, and is pictured with Duncan Hutchison who delivered ‘Address to the Haggis’.

Chair of the Friends, Norma MacLellan give the welcome and handed over to John Hutchison, convener for the evening, who later gave the Immortal Memory and ran the ‘What do you know about Burns?’ quiz.

Burns’ great satire on religious hypocrisy, ‘Holy Willie’s Prayer’, was acted out by local vet, Kenny Lang and who better than dentist Irene Larasser to deliver ‘Address to the Toothache’!

Fiddler Malcolm Kinnear played both rousing and sensitive melodies and singer Julie Bolton held the company with ‘A Rosebud by my Early Walk’, accompanied by David Anderson who, along with John Hutchison, led the gathering through a good collection of Burns songs from a song sheet, well stretching their voices.

Paul and Helen Brian gave a very amusing ‘Toast to the Lasses’ and ‘Reply’, respectively, whose married experiences chimed with many present!

Friends Chair Norma MacLellan said, “We have outstanding talent in this community and we are pleased to have been able to organise an opportunity for folk to come together, have the craic and enjoy themselves”.

In giving the Vote of Thanks, Rosemary Green used her own verse, leading into ‘Auld Lang Syne’, to close the evening.
