While there might seem nothing surprising in the headline above, it was with great sadness that the Friends learned of Rev Rory’s resignation. On 27 July we received his letter:
Dear Friends,
It is with sadness that I have resigned from the post of Team Minister.
Due to limited recovery from my strokes, I recognise that I am unable to fulfil my current role as needed, and as I would wish. This is not how I would like to be leaving this position.
I want to acknowledge the support and patience provided to me by Rev David Sim, the ministry team, elders, members of the congregation and others across this wider community. I have enjoyed my time in this role, and hope that Fort William, Kilmallie and Kilmonivaig Parish will find another team minister to join them. I wish them all sincere blessings.
Carolyn and l, daughter Skye, and Sula (our dog) want to extend our thanks to this community for welcoming us and making us feel at home so quickly. We have enjoyed our time in Lochaber and take with us cherished memories that will encourage us to visit again, when we are able. We will think of you often.
We recognise that there are new horizons for us and hopefully new adventures. Skye is enjoying her flat in Edinburgh and Carolyn and I will be heading to our home on the Isle of Skye . . . not too far away.
We especially want to thank you all for your continued support throughout the challenges of this past year.
With all good blessings,
Yours aye,
Rory
Worshippers from the parishes of Fort William Kilmallie linked with Kilmonivag made a joint presentation on Sunday 27 July and while the main event that day was Rory’s presentation when our Chair, Norma MacLellan, spoke of the warm affection that the community has for Rory, we also remember the sterling job Carolyn has done on the Friends’ Board and in the wider area.
We will see the MacLeods around for a few weeks yet and will wish them well in due course.
