A very successful ‘Strawberry Tea’ in the Kilmallie Community Centre in July 2023 was our first real event with the wee hall full and a steady turnover of people enjoying strawberries, cake and craic.
There were folk there from various churches and none, just a real community get-together. People are used to attending concerts and the like, then going home, but the purpose of the day was solely to let folk actually speak to each other – quite an innovation these days!
The main organiser and treasurer of the Friends, Norma MacLellan, said; “Folk sat chatting away and enjoying themselves. There was a lovely warm atmosphere with friendships rekindled. We appreciate the support from several retailers who donated strawberries and cream. The car park was full and in terms of outreach, creating a community gathering and fundraising, it was an outstanding success.”
